    • providing a referral panel of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender sensitive health and wellness services;

History

In the beginning, we called ourselves Southern California Physicians for Human Rights. The organization was created in 1978 by a group of gay physicians to provide support and networking opportunities to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender physicians, as well as education to all physicians about the medical and mental health needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender patients.

Monthly meetings were initiated, originally in members' homes, that combined social mixers with medical presentations pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender health care. Later, special events such as pool and holiday parties were added to our calendar.

In 1997, we changed our name to Southern California Lambda Medical Association (SCLMA) and in 2016 we extended our membership to all health and wellness professions. With over 200 members, SCLMA is now considered to be one of the oldest and most active lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender medical organizations in the state.

Referral Panel

SCLMA's referral panel is a privilege of membership. Referral information includes the member's name, office address, office phone number, and medical specialties. This information is used to create a referral list that is given to the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center and other interested parties who are looking for referrals to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender physicians. The referral list is also a feature of this web site.

Participation on the referral panel indicates a desire to care for, and provide a comfortable and accepting environment to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender patients.
